Bioshock 2 initial review
« on: February 10, 2010, 01:36:12 PM »
I played for about 2 hours last night...single player only.  I will probably play through the SP before getting into the MP.  Here is my initial take:

Sound: Excellent - Not as ground breaking as COD:WaW or BFBC2, but also not in the same open environment as these two.  Overall good creepy effects and reverbs. Grade A.

Graphics: Excellent - I haven't looked into it, but it seems like the same graphics engine as the first one....only tweaked out.  I am running well over a 100fps with all settings on max.  It is not demanding at all.  Everything looks great...kind of like how MW2 looked just a little bit better than COD4 with its tweaked out engine.  Grade: B+

Control: Excellent - very intuitive.  Just how a FPS should be.  I simply feel like I have control over my avatar and was up and going in like 2 minutes of playing.  Every FPS game should be like this.  Other games that were like this are COD4, MW2, COD5, TF2.  A game that is NOT like this is would be BFBC2.  Grade: A+

Story:  Excellent so far - I am really curious to see the story run its course.  That is a good thing.  I was the same way in COD5, Bioshock 1, MOHAA, Farcry, Crysis (until the ending...ehh).  COD4 and MW2 stories I just didn't care about for whatever reason.  It took me over a year before I finished the SP to COD4 and I still haven't finished MW2.

Gameplay:  Good - It is most definitely not sandbox....very linear.  Farcry and Crysis are examples of a sandbox type environment.  Grade: C+

Multiplayer:  review coming later.

Overall score on the SP:  I give it an A.
