Ghost's BFBC2 review
« on: March 28, 2010, 06:40:08 PM »
So here is my review after the game has been out for 2 months.  The first 1.5 months I didnt play much due to work, glitchy bfbc2 problems, etc.

9.0 - Presentation - Since I didn't get a box copy this time, I will judge the presentation by the menu system.  While I have issues with things being buggy and not working right, I'm sure they will get fixed.  I'm giving this a 9 because I love the saving of recent servers, favorites, friends list, stats for EVERYTHING.  Overall great job.  I might have given this a 10 if it wasn't so damned buggy and if I didn't have to sign in 2 fucking god damn times.

9.5 - Graphics - The graphics are amazing.  There are still some bugs with my particular graphics drivers making certain shiny objects like water and windows blink, but overall amazing.  Plus I can fix the problem right now by simply going into my graphics menu, make ANY change, then go back to the game.  For some reason that will fix the problem until a new map loads.  Also, there are plenty areas that you can get hung up on (players, tree stub, etc.)  Destructible environments are amazing.  My only real complaint is the overuse of glowing effects.  In real life, in the desert, I can still see shit.  Its not like the desert sand is made out of friggin chrome just waiting to blind me with its super duper ultrarealistic glare.

10 - Sound - OMG, guess what MW2 and COD4? Guns really can sound like guns.  Not like like fucking lazer beam sounds invented on a fucking keyboard.  COD5, MOHAA, MOH Airborne, and now BFBC2 all have sound effects that have umph to them....get a clue IW.  The sound is perfect in this game.  Period.

6.0 - Gameplay - The only real downside to this game is the mechanics.  No matter what, this game simply DOES NOT have a natural fluid feel when controlling your character.
*you cant prone
*you cant toggle squatting (anyone else's fingers go to sleep holding that fucker down?)
*you cant toggle aiming down your sites
*the knifing animation makes you look at the sky, get disoriented, and totally lose your enemy
*the knifing animation literally takes 2 seconds, so you have to be Nostrafuckingdamus and predict the god damned future as to where your enemy will precisely be in 2 seconds, hit the knife button, follow them around for 2 seconds, look into the air, bring down your hand, hope you hit them, figure out where your character is.  You will either get lucky and hit them, die because your oppenent hit his knife button 3 seconds ago, or die because you missed and then your opponent rofl pwns you.
Other game play issues involve weapons balancing issues.  Some guns are clearly overpowered and some are clearly underpowered.  The splash effects of the tanks, etc is horrible.  You can light someone up and they wont die.  Yet 2 hits with the medics M60 and you are dead.  Of course, it still takes two hits with a 50 cal barret.  The balance simply needs more tweaking.

8.0 - Multiplayer experience - pretty good overall.

8.5 - Lasting Appeal - It will get me through the summer at least.

Overall score - 8.5 - (not an average) - The gameplay experience really drug this great game down.  Overall I am having a blast playing it.  Definitely a top tier game.  If you could combine MW2 mechanics to this game, it would be a beast.

I would have to agree with you. My biggest problem with the game were the bullets. Sometimes I would kill a full health guy in 3-4 shots and others it seemed like I would get a good 8 hits on them and not kill them. It's probably because I suck but it got a little irritating at times.

I love the smell of gunpowder and pussy. One brings you into this world, one takes you out, and I love the smell of both.

Or drags or dragged perhaps...

Also, not a bad review Ghost.

Not to be that guy, but this lines a lil QQ exaggerate-ish.
I agree with the knifing bit, and the "no prone" is a buzz kill; but the shooting mechanics are more than solid.
The constant changing of the environment from explosions and etc. give it a dynamic feel.
Like in the other battlefields the vehicles give it an interesting twist, and they feel like a natural part of the game (Unlike CoD:WaW.)
Teamwork is positively reinforced, and the large, well made maps give breathing room for decent sized teams.
There are several ways to go about completing your objective, from dropping out of helicopters, and busting shit down with a tank, to a more subtle infantry approach.
Not to mention nothing beats making your own entrance into objectives.

You're ignoring what make the mechanics great for small tidbits that can be easily patched out if they choose so.(Though they probably won't.)
At least an 8, I'll give you wiggle room for a 7.5; but a 6 is a bit unfair in my opinion.

though I guess that's all it is, an opinion.

P.S. Toggling feels awkward anyways.

I think you are trying to defend multiplayer. He gave that an 8.

My bad.

It still more or less fits into mechanics.

I didnt quite like it at first either because we were so used to MW2.  Not the same fluid game I know, but it has other cool things that make it a good game.

Basically, get going with a group of people you know and work as a team.  Completely different game.
